The power electronics and the electric motor were specially developed for the iWOP to enable ideal cooling integration in the overall housing.
The iWOP eMotor has more continuous power than, for example, the eMotor of a Tesla Model S.
In the maritime application, the continuous power is almost exclusively relevant, the peak power (30 seconds), which can theoretically be many times higher, is of little importance in the maritime world. Pay attention to the information from different manufacturers.

With this product you can electrify your fleet very quickly - almost regardless of the hull shape or the type of boat - whether boats with transom for outboard motors or boats with inboard propulsion. Because the iWOP is so compact, it can be flanged to the stern, even on boats that typically have inboard Z-gear drives. There is space for batteries in the interior and you don't have to install a shaft system, your own engine cooling or similar. An all in one product. Compared to inboard engines with shaft systems, the operator also enjoys many advantages as a result - just think of the maneuverability when docking (steered propeller instead of rudder), for example.
Since the Volta future team has a very high level of development, we can also tailor the drive perfectly to the respective requirements, so that the drive forms a unit with the boat, so to speak.

Thanks to our innovative architecture, no interval maintenance or time-consuming winterization work is necessary. No more transmission oil changes, no more impeller replacements, no more filter changes!
In displacement speed, ie at 5 to 6 knots, you can drive at least a whole day. With several battery banks, 20 hours and more are also possible. This means you can achieve ranges of well over 100km. Despite the high performance, our high-performance drive is highly efficient even at the lowest performance in displacement mode.
The range decreases with fast gliding, but ranges suitable for everyday use can still be achieved.
If you have very high performance and range requirements, you can use several battery packs in parallel. The modular structure of our architecture helps here.
The range that can actually be achieved depends on many factors.
We use state-of-the-art, "green" high-performance cells of the type 21700, which are built into a battery pack by a well-known automotive supplier especially for the navy according to our requirements.
The charging power depends heavily on the available on-site infrastructure - there are options from 3 to 22kW on-board chargers, but DC fast charging can also be implemented if desired.
Depending on the number of parallel battery packs and the available infrastructure, the charging time varies greatly. In the case of a 150kW DC supercharger, the charging time can be 0-80% less than 1h.
As a rule, you have to ask yourself the question, since in many cases the infrastructure for DC charging is not yet available: do I want to charge overnight or is it enough for me, for example, from Sunday to Sunday? For the first case you are with a 3-phase on-board charger - 9kW (400V/13A) /11kW (400V/16A) /22kW (400V/32A) - for the second case a 3kW on-board charger is sufficient (1- phase, 230V).
Yes, this was taken into account constructively. We use very high-quality, seawater-resistant materials and, as far as technically possible, have also prevented galvanic corrosion by using electrochemically equivalent materials or insulating materials with different voltage potentials from one another or protecting them with sacrificial anodes.
In the high-voltage version basically for boats from 6 to 12m. With twin engines also for slightly larger boats.
If your boat can reach planing with a conventional outboard motor of comparable power, the boat with the iWOP drive will certainly achieve this, usually even faster because of the high and constant torque. In order to stay on plane, it usually requires less power, partly because the innovative housing itself acts as a hydrofoil.
Particularly important to increase efficiency and range.
The iWOP motor can not only be used on boats with a transom (classic outboard boats), but also on boats that are designed for an inboard motor with z-drive due to its compactness. Here the iWOP can be mounted instead of the z-gear. This not only makes it easier for original equipment manufacturers to launch electrification campaigns for existing boat types, but also creates opportunities for retrofitting and conversions. We also see ourselves as problem solvers for start-up shipyards with a focus on electromobility, since we offer turnkey solutions and thus a quick start with a high-performance e-drive is possible and the shipyard can focus on its core business - boat building.
This depends heavily on the type of boat, its weight, propeller settings and many other factors.
Theoretically ~3.000 km/h are possible with a propeller speed of 22 rpm and a maximum propeller pitch of 10 “and a slip of 90%.
We specify our engines in kW (continuous power propeller shaft). Traditional manufacturers of petrol outboard and inboard engines indicate their performance data in horsepower.
Here is a conversion factor of 1,36.
1kW therefore corresponds to 1,36hp or a 220kW e-motor corresponds to around 300hp.
Since the e-motor has a significantly higher torque at low speeds, it is always superior to a petrol engine. Many therefore say that 1kW of electricity corresponds to 3hp in combustion engines. This is correct for displacement travel and small drives (~5kW), since pusher propellers have a significantly higher efficiency and due to the high torque of the e-machine, larger propellers can be used (higher thrust power). With larger engines and when gliding fast, an e-motor still has advantages over a combustion engine, but multiplying the comparable power by a factor of ~2 is not permissible and drops to almost 1.
Since we specify our motors in continuous output and limit the peak output (depending on the motor) by a factor of 1,2 to 1,4 (motor optimized and developed for maritime applications), you can at least factor 1,2 in a direct comparison of the Apply power with combustion engines.

All systems and components are optimally matched to each other, so that there is little installation effort on site.
If, for special reasons, you only want to purchase the outboard motor and, for example, use other battery packs, this is theoretically possible. In this case, however, detailed coordination is required in order, for example, to comply with the technical requirements and safety regulations. We advise against this in individual projects, since the effort involved is considerable for both parties.
